Prince Aribert to file suit against German newspapers

December 6, 1900

Prince Aribert of Anhalt "has instituted legal proceedings" against several German newspapers regarding their comments "as to the causes which had induced his wife, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, to leave him."
Princess Aribert  recently obtain a judicial separation in Berlin.   According to the Marquise de Fontenoy, the "slander suits promise interesting developments," as there the prejudice against Prince Aribert goes straight to the top, beginning with Kaiser Wilhelm II.    Princess Aribert - the former Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig-Holstein -- is the recipient of popular sympathy, including support from the Kaiser, who is her first cousin.
Prince Aribert will have a difficult time proving in court that "the statements affecting his good name are calumnies." He can expect further investigation into his conduct, as "well as the laying bare of a number of scandals."
It will also be difficult for judges to rule in the prince's favor, as the Kaiser has already deprived Prince Albert of  his army command.  The Prince has also been banished from "the court in Berlin."
