Italian government censors news about Princesses' illness

October 6, 1923

The Rome correspondent for London's Daily Mail newspaper reports that the Italian government "has ordered a strict censorship placed on the news of the illness of the Princesses Mafalda and Giovanna." The official reason given for this decision is that it is "desired to prevent false rumors from alarming the people," but the Mail's correspondent suggests that the princesses' father, King Victor Emanuel "resents discussion of the royal family's affairs by the newspapers."
